Due to planned park enhancements – upgrading electric, water system and lift station – the Grousehaven modern campground is closed Sept. 2 through spring 2025. The rustic cabins are open year-round. The rustic campgrounds will open for the season April 15, 2025. A proposed $2.91 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan made these renovations possible.
The rustic campground is smaller, with just 16 sites. The sites are heavily wooded and are located near the Rifle River. The campground is especially popular during trout season. There is a trailhead providing easy access to the park’s multiuse trail.
About the Area
The AuSable River Scenic Byway is located 20 miles east of the park. Along this byway are many attractions, including Lumbermen's Monument Visitor Center and Iargo Springs.
