Biking: Lakeshore Trail, a 20-mile paved route, runs parallel to Lakeshore Drive and Grand Haven State Park to Holland State Park on one continuous route.

Fishing: Fishing is popular along the channel walkway on Lake Michigan and along the Ottawa County’s boardwalk on Lake Macatawa.

Metal Detecting Item is accessible.
Metal Detecting: Metal detecting is recognized as a legitimate recreation activity when it is conducted in ways that do not damage natural and cultural resources in Michigan state parks nor violate applicable state statutes. This park map clearly shows where this activity is allowed to take place. Any items found must be reviewed by park staff and may be retained for further investigation. Areas located within the campground are limited to registered campers only.

Pet-Friendly Area: Pets are allowed in the designated dog beach along Lake Macatawa. Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control. All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

Swimming:

Designated swim areas are located in the Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa day-use areas. There is an accessible walkway to the water and two beach wheelchairs available to use on Lake Michigan.

Please be mindful of Great Lakes beach safety. Pay attention to the beach flag warning system in designated swim areas; red flags indicate the water is unsafe and no one should swim in or enter the water. DO NOT swim near or jump off the pier or navigational channel walls, and pay attention to changing conditions.

Boat Launch: There are no boating access sites in the park; however, the Lake Macatawa boating access site is located 1 mile toward Holland on Ottawa Beach Road.

Lighthouse: The iconic "Big Red" lighthouse can be seen from the park and is located outside of the park across the channel.

Picnic Area: Picnic areas are in both the Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa day-use areas and include picnic tables and charcoal grills that are available first come, first served.

Picnic Shelter: There is a picnic shelter located in the beach house in the Lake Michigan day-use area that includes picnic tables, charcoal grills and electrical service (reservations only). Shelter reservations can be made 12 months in advance at MiDNRReservations.com.

Playground: An accessible playground in the Lake Michigan day-use area features slides, spinners and other interactive features. It all sits on a rubberized surface that makes access easier for those of all mobility levels.
