Fishing: Shore and boat fishing is available on Sessions Lake and the Grand River. Stream fishing is available on Sessions Creek and Tibbits Creek. The 140-acre Sessions Lake is man-made and has a depth of 60 feet. Fish species caught in these waters include catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, panfish, carp, and trout.

Metal Detecting: Metal detecting is recognized as a legitimate recreation activity when it is conducted in ways that do not damage natural and cultural resources in Michigan state parks nor violate applicable state statutes. This park map clearly shows where this activity can take place. Any items found must be reviewed by park staff and may be retained for further investigation. Areas located within the campground are limited to registered campers only.

Paddling: Explore the Grand River and Sessions Lake. A rustic boat launch on the Grand River is available from the picnic area. A hard-surfaced ramp is available on Sessions Lake.

Snowmobiling: The park is open to snowmobiling when there is appropriate snow depth. Snowmobiles are prohibited on park trails and in campground areas.

Dog Trial Area: Three dog field trial areas are available. Hunting dogs may be trained year-round. Field dog competitions are held throughout the year. This activity is coordinated with Ionia Field Trial Grounds Association.
