Headquarters Lake Equestrian State Forest Campground
Situated on the shore of Headquarters Lake, this rustic campground offers great opportunities for horseback riding and equestrian camping. Located in Luce County, 23 miles north of Newberry.

This 9-site rustic equestrian campground, situated on the shore of Headquarters Lake, features vault toilets, potable water from a hand-pump well and manure pits. The sites are suitable for tent and small-to-large trailers.
Day-use visitors can enjoy the equestrian day-use and staging area near the campground entrance. There you'll find a parking area, four picket poles, a manure pit and access to the well-marked and varied Headquarters Lake Equestrian Trails. A highlight is the trail to Lake Superior, which is an 18-mile round trip ride. Head further down the road and you'll find a fire ring with surrounding benches – perfect for warming up or preparing a meal.
There's a ADA accessible mounting ramp in the equestrian day-use and staging area for visitors.
The campground is located 23 miles north of Newberry via M-123 and County Road 407.

Options for those camping with horses are limited in the area, so equestrians rely heavily upon this campground. If you are not camping with horses, please consider staying in another state forest campground.
