Wilderness-East Ridge Trail
Wilderness State Park
More Information
This 1.4-mile trail runs north and south from the trailhead at its northern end to the midpoint of the Nebo Trail at its southern end. The northern third of the trail passes through a low-density conifer forest, rises in elevation into a mixed deciduous/conifer forest and rises even further, with the southern third passing through an open-understory red pine forest. This trail offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and, since it passes through a large wild blueberry and huckleberry patch, it also offers a sweet snack during berry season.
With the elevation changes and protruding rocks and roots, this trail is considered intermediate in intensity.
The trailhead, which also serves the East Old Boundary Trail and as the designated parking lot for backcountry camping, is located on the south side of Wilderness Park Drive. You can see the Straits of Mackinac from the north side of the road.
