Bald Mountain-South Unit Trails
Bald Mountain Recreation Area
More Information
Bald Mountain Recreation Area is located on the southeast side of the Lower Peninsula. The park has several trails that make up the South Unit of the park. The Red Loop, totaling approximately 3.4 miles, can be shortened via the Green Trail (0.2-miles), the Blue Trail (0.2 miles) or the Orange Trail (0.3 miles). You can also access the Yellow Trail (0.5 miles) via the Red Trail to get back to Kern Road. If you want to get back to Greenshield Road, you can take the White Trail (0.3 miles). Along all pathways, you will hike amongst marshes and deep forests, through rolling hills and rough terrain. Hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing are allowed on the trails, weather permitting.
Activities (Display as List)

To the south, the red, yellow, orange, blue, green and white trails are also shared with hikers and can be accessed from Greenshield and Kern roads. Mountain bikes are discouraged in the North Unit when trails are snow covered to make way for cross-country skiing. Fat-tire biking is encouraged in the South Unit during the winter months because snowmobiling tracks make a great base.
