A new pathway in the Pigeon River Country State Forest, the Towerman’s Watch Pathway begins at the Pigeon River Country Headquarters. This 3 mile route is comprised of two loops and takes you through majestic pines and offers views of the Pigeon River. Visitors pass by the Witness Tree which was established in 1850 during the original land survey of Michigan and the P.S. Lovejoy Monument which was dedicated to the passionate conversationist who had the foresight to help preserve the forest. Hikers can also visit the site of the former Pigeon River Middle Fire Tower where the towerman stood watch for signs of a wildfire. Both loops are moderate with short sections that are difficult. Bicycles are not allowed.
