About the Area
St. Ignace is home to numerous gift shops and restaurants. It is known for its antique auto show on the last weekend in June and the Labor Day Bridge Walk held every Labor Day on the Mackinac Bridge.
Mackinac Island is the featured attraction in the area, located 4 miles across Lake Huron serviced by two ferry lines. Just across the bridge, history comes alive at additional Mackinac State Historic Parks attractions, including Fort Mackinac and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.
The park is a great home base for local attractions as well as regional destinations. Many campers leave their trailers at the park and make day trips up to Tahquamenon Falls (80 miles) and to the Soo Locks (50 miles).
The nearest boat launch is located in downtown St. Ignace, half a mile from the park. Fishing is allowed on the shore of Lake Huron, with the best fishing located west of the Mackinac Bridge (the water is too shallow in front of the park for good shore fishing).
