Island Lake Rustic Bunkhouse
Island Lake Recreation Area
More Information
The park's vehicle entrance is closed thru October 2024. The paved trail connection to Kensington Metropark is also closed for repairs. Visitors can still enjoy the park by parking in perimeter parking areas and walking/bicycling into the park. A proposed $2.95 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan made these and other renovations possible.
There are two rustic bunkhouses centrally located in the park. Each two-room bunkhouse sleeps 15. It’s outfitted with bunkbeds, tables/benches, a propane furnace and a countertop with cabinets. There is no electricity or running water; however, water is available at a hand pump nearby. You must provide your own linens and towels, cookware, plates and utensils.
There are a fire pit, picnic table, horseshoes and large charcoal grill outside. There are vault toilets nearby.
