This sunny, open group campground is surrounded by tall oaks and pines. It is designed for use by equestrian campers riding the Shore-to-Shore Trail, a 420-mile trail system open to hiking and horseback riding, that stretches east-west from Empire to Oscoda with two additional northern and southern spur trails. The 19.2-mile route from Rapid River Trail Camp to Schecks Trail Camp features a beautiful river and can be sandy in places.
This group campground has a maximum capacity of 200 people. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from well-hand pump. There is also a submersible pump that requires a 5000 watt generator. The campground is located 3 miles north of Kalkaska via Metzgar Road.

This campground is maintained with the help of the Michigan Trail Riders Association.
