McLain-Modern Campground
McLain State Park
More Information
The modern campground is divided into two sections. Sites 1-91 are smaller and set along the Lake Superior shoreline, and sites 100-135 are bigger. Most sites are shaded by mature trees. There is 30- and/or 50-amp electrical service available on each site and a sanitation station.
About the Area
Centrally located between the cities of Calumet and Hancock, the park serves as a great homebase for those wanting to explore the wester U.P. Visitors will find attractions such as abandoned shafthouses, tram cars, "poor rock" piles, ghost towns and the Keweenaw National Historic Park.
Facilities (Display as List)

Firewood is available at a self-service station near the modern toilet and shower building.
Sundae in the Park – located in the beach house, in the day-use area off the canal – offers ice, food, souvenirs, camping supplies, clothing, ice cream and more.

The modern campground is set along Lake Superior.
The designated swim beach is located off the canal; however, a large portion of the park is located along a Great Lake. Please be mindful of Great Lakes beach safety. DO NOT swim near or jump off break walls or navigational channel walls and pay attention to changing conditions.
