Situated along the northern shore of Black Lake, this rustic campground offers great opportunities for paddlesports and fishing. It is located in Cheboygan County, 11 miles north of Onaway.

This rustic campground sits along the northern shores of Black Lake, which is Michigan’s seventh largest inland lake. It is surrounded by rolling hills and lush hardwood forests. Black Lake is a shallow lake and provides great opportunities for paddlesports and fishing. Northern pike and muskellunge can be found in Black Lake. This popular campground fills up quickly in the summer, especially on weekends.

In the lower unit, use of motor vehicles (other than street-licensed vehicles such as cars, trucks or street legal motorcycles) is not allowed. ORVs must remain on trailers if in the lower unit. The upper unit is considered an ORV campground and is open to ORV use only for entering and leaving the campground to access the trail.

There are 17 sites for tent, small and large trailer use. Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from a spigot. The campground is located 11 miles north of Onaway via M-211, County Road 489, Black Mt. Road and Doriva Beach Road. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations.

Fishing: Musky, pike, panfish, largemouth bass and small-mouth bass can be found in Black Lake.
Hiking Item is accessible.
Hiking: Black Mountain Recreation Area includes 30 miles of pathways. Access to the Black Mountain Pathway is located one-third mile east of the campground.
Hunting Item is accessible.
Hunting: This campground provides access to state land open to hunting. Firearm hunting is not allowed within 450 feet of an occupied dwelling. Learn more about hunting.
Mountain Biking Item is accessible.
Mountain Biking: Mountain bikes are allowed on the Black Mountain Recreation Area trail system.
Paddlesports Item is accessible.
Paddlesports: Explore Black Lake from the campground. Carry-in access is located at the boat launch on the south side of the campground approximately 25 yards from the parking area. There is also direct access to the lake from some of the campsites.
Snowshoeing Item is accessible.
Snowshoeing: Black Mountain Recreation Area includes 30 miles of pathways. Access to the Black Mountain Pathway is located one-third mile east of the campground. Snowshoers are asked to stay off of groomed cross-country tracks in the winter.
