Wilderness-East Old Boundary Trail
Wilderness State Park
More Information
Please note this trail is closed to through hikes or bikes due to flooding caused by beaver activity.
East Old Boundary Trail is located on the eastern side of the park. This 2.2-mile trail ends at the convergence of O'Neal Lake and Nebo and Old South Boundary trails, and it intersects the North Country Trail .6 miles south of the trailhead. The trail surface is grass and gravel, and the elevation changes are gradual, making it a low-intensity trail.
The northern third of the trail traverses a dense conifer forest, the middle section passes through the center of a large wetland and the southern third rises into an open-understory red pine forest. The variation of ecosystems is popular with bird watchers and wildflower enthusiasts.
The trailhead, which also serves the East Ridge Trail and as the designated parking lot for backcountry camping, is located on the south side of Wilderness Park Drive. You can see the Straits of Mackinac from the north side of the road.
