Wilderness-Hemlock Trail
Wilderness State Park
More Information
The .6-mile Hemlock Trail loops off Nebo Trail to the top of Mount Nebo. The .25-mile route to the top of Mount Nebo from the northern intersection of Hemlock and Nebo trails has a very steep incline, whereas the .6-mile route to the top of Mount Nebo from the southern intersection has a gradual incline. The trail is located about 1.5 miles from the from the Pines Campground.
The Hemlock Trail is named for the large, majestic hemlock trees that grow abundantly in this area of the park. The dense canopy of trees makes the trail noticeably cooler on hot summer days. The foundation from an old fire tower at top of Mount Nebo is a reminder of the many long hours spent watching for smoke to protect the forest we enjoy today.
Due to elevation changes, a through-hike of Hemlock Trail in either direction considered high-intensity. An in-and-out hike from the southern intersection is considered intermediate.
