Wilderness-Nebo Trail
Wilderness State Park
More Information
Nebo Trail runs north and south from the Nebo Trailhead on Wilderness Park Drive to the convergence of the Old East Boundary O’Neal Lake and Old South Boundary trails (approximately 2.4 miles to the south). During the winter months, Nebo Trail is part of the designated cross-country ski trail, which is groomed and track-set when snow conditions allow.
The two-track Nebo Trail intersects with multiple other trails allowing for looped 3-, 7- and 11-mile routes. The trail meanders through a conifer forest, with most of it running through an open-understory red pine forest. The hilly topography is the result of dune ridges and swales created at a time when the lake levels were much higher than they are today.
A trailside shelter located approximate 2.2 miles south of the trailhead is an ideal place to stop for lunch or to simply enjoy the tranquility of nature. The trail surface is grass and gravel, and although there are elevation changes, most are very gradual, making this trail a low-intensity trail.
