Wilderness-Red Pine Trail
Wilderness State Park
More Information
The Red Pine Trail begins at the convergence of the Pondside and Big Stone trails near the Goose Pond Dam. From the starting point on the west end, the trail winds 1.2 miles east and ends at the intersection with Nebo Trail. The western half of this trail winds through forest lowlands, with sections of boardwalks over the wetter areas, rising in elevation as it meanders through a conifer forest. A route of Red Pine Trail to Nebo Trail to Wiikenhs Trail to Big Stone Trail creates a loop trail that is slightly over 3 miles. This loop will take you through a variety of ecosystems, each supporting its own variety of plant and animal species. For wildlife and flower viewing, this loop is an excellent choice, but insect repellent is strongly recommended.
