More Information
The park's Marsh Trail and River Raisin Heritage (connector) Trail will undergo significant improvements starting Jan. 13. Work includes significant erosion remediation, tree root removal, pavement resurfacing, bridge repairs and new amenities such as signage, bike racks, repair stations and benches. The project is anticipated to take place through July 2025, but may be adjusted according to construction progress. A proposed $4 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan made these and other renovations possible. Other funding was provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, MDOT and Monroe County.
The Marsh Trail is a 2.7-mile, paved loop that offers views of the marsh and lotus beds and provides access to an observation platform and viewing tower. The trail offers access to the 1-mile River Raisin Heritage (connector) Trail – sometimes referred to as the Wetlands Trail – that connects Sterling State Park to the River Raisin Heritage Trail.
The trailhead, located across from the day-use area, can accommodate 60 vehicles. An additional 20 vehicles can park in another trailhead parking area located along the main entrance road, just after the contact station.
