The Homestead Trail is an approximately 3-mile route that climbs through the forested dunes and passes Lake Michigan. The trail is a loop (with many optional trail segments that can increase or decrease mileage) that features several moderate climbs, a designated natural area and access to the Dune Overlook Trail. The trailhead can be accessed near the visitor center.

While the trail does contain several climbs, they can typically be handled by young children. If you come in the summer, be sure to pack your swimsuit and take a lunch break on the shores of Lake Michigan.
